Salifert Additives Information
| Coral Calcium |
We have highly concentrated this
supplement. In fact a higher concentration is impossible to
achieve. Each liter contains approx. 160,000 mg of calcium.
You will appreciate this when you consider that an average aquarium
depletes 5-8 mg of calcium per liter, each week.
To avoid an ionic imbalance, we properly balance the calcium
with ions such as sulfate, chloride, bromide, sodium and magnesium.
All ingredients are of a pharmaceutical quality or even better.
This ensures that no unwanted elements are added to your valuable
aquarium.
Right after you have dosed this supplement the calcium is immediately
for the full 100% available to your corals and other calcium
requiring organisms. |
| Coral Grower |
Salifert Coral Grower 250ml. It
contains calcium, strontium and trace elements (except iodine)
required for growth and multiplication by corals and the beautiful
encrusting pink and red coralline algae. Calcium and strontium
are the major cationic constituents of calcareous algae, skeletal
material of hard corals and the skeletal needles of soft - leather
corals. Growth and multiplication of these organisms means depletion
of those substances. The trace elements included in Coral Grower
allow organisms to carry out many biological processes. Manganese
for instance is essential for the many biochemical reactions,
which make photosynthesis possible. Iron allows several organisms
to absorb nutrients. Cobalt is essential for the formation of
several coral pigments. Zinc is, like manganese essential for
photosynthesis and is also used in the formation of calcium
carbonate by corals. |
| Magnesium |
Salifert Magnesium fl 500ml. Magnesium
is present in NSW (Natural Sea Water) in a fairly high concentration
(1350 - 1500 mg - L). Magnesium is an essential part of chlorophyll,
which is necessary for photosynthesis. Without photosynthesis
algae and hence the corals, which we have in our aquariums,
would not survive. Magnesium also has another important function
in that it allows maintaining the correct combination of calcium
concentration and alkalinity or carbonate hardness possible.
Maintaining a correct magnesium concentration is therefore very
important and is indirectly responsible for fast coral and calcareous
algae growth. Magnesium is depleted by algae growth and also
by the use of excessive kalkwasser or by going far beyond natural
calcium, alkalinity and pH values. This supplement is highly
concentrated. Each liter contains approximately 25000 mg of
magnesium. |
| Iodine |
Salifert Iodine 500ml. Corals require
iodine as a de-toxifier, as a protection against uv-radiation
and as a natural defense against many parasites. Iodine is present
in NSW (Natural Sea Water) in a very low concentration (0.06
mg - L or 0.06 ppm). Iodine occurs in NSW as different species.
These include iodide, iodate, molecular iodine and hypoiodite.
Generally when we say iodine we mean one or more iodine species
without a clear distinction being made. NSW contains predominantly
iodate and to a lesser extent iodide. There is, however, a misconception
among many hobbyists that iodide predominates in NSW. Research
by Salifert and universities has proved this to be untrue. Scientific
studies by Salifert have shown that it is predominately iodate
which is used by algae (photo synthetic corals have a symbiotic
relationship with zooxanthellae, which in fact are algae). |
| KH and pH Buffer |
Salifert KH + pH Buffer 250ml.
Is a highly concentrated, fast dissolving powder which increases
alkalinity (carbonate hardness) and stabilizes the pH at the
correct value. In these ways it contributes significantly to
the health of all aquarium inhabitants including corals, coralline
algae and fish. To keep your corals and beautify encrusting
algae in good health you should maintain an alkalinity of approximately
3.2 meg-L or 9 dKH expressed in German carbonate hardness value. |
| Trace Hard |
Salifert Trace Hard 500 ml. Withouut
trace elements life would have been impossible. All corals and
invertebrates use trace elements. This additive, which is made
form the finest substances, is especially designed for hard
corals. It supplies them with trace elements which they use
for their health and growth. If you have soft - leather corals
as well, you might consider combining it with Trace Soft. |
| Boron |
Salifert Boron 250ml. No disturbance
of the ionic balance. Highly concentrated. This is the easiest
and best long term solution. Boron is present in NSW (Natural
Sea Water) in a concentration of 4.4 - 5.2 ppm. This element
appears to be highly essential for coral growth. Too low boron
concentration might result in stagnation of growth. Too high
boron concentration might upset the whole biological system
of your aquarium. If you have noticed a low boron concentration
(Salifert's Boron Profi-Test) you might want to increase the
boron concentration to the correct level. |
| Phosphate Eliminator |
Salifert Phosphate Eliminator 500ml.
Phosphate Eliminator binds phosphate and is removed by skimming
more effectively than normal. When we dose it to the reef or
marine aquarium, it immediately makes phosphate unavailable
to algae. It also avoids binding of phosphate to corals, live
rock and sand, increasing the ability of corals and calcareous
algae to grow much faster. The phosphate bound by this supplement
and not removed by skimming within 24 hours will be set free
again by bacterial action. This will be especially the case
when dealing with a rather high phosphate concentration. Daily
dosage is required in such cases. Increased phosphate concentration
in the skimmed foam will be observed a couple of hours after
Phosphate Eliminator has been dosed. Measurement of the aquarium
water when using Phosphate Eliminator will not show that this
supplement has bound the phosphate. |
