Flame Angel
Centropyge loriculus

Flame angels are one stunning fish. The contrast of color between orange and blue and the way they catch the observers eye as they swim in and out of the rock work makes these one of my favorite fish. Flame angels are one of the dwarf angels. They don't grow as large as the full sized angels and are often labeled as a reef safe fish. The problem with that is this fish, as well as the rest of the dwarf angels, sometimes has a habit of nibbling on corals. You can put this fish in a reef and it might not try anything for weeks, months, or even years, but it can suddenly turn and decide your prized coral would make a prized meal. Because of this I am very hesitant to house this fish in any tank which contains corals including my own personal reef tank.

These fish are sensitive to nitrates and stray current in your tank. You should take a grounding probe into consideration if planning to house this fish. Like full sized angels you shouldn't mix dwarf angels in the same tank unless it's very large and even then you should exercise caution as they may fight until one or worse, both die. Flame angels are born neither male nor female then eventually as they age turn into females. In the wild they will form harems where one of the females will then turn into a male.
