We now have many different types of live rock available by the pound. Email us to find out what is in stock and get yours shipped to you right away! There is no minimum order on live rock. You may buy as little or as much as you like.
Transhipped Rock The lots listed are what is currently available. This rock will be drop shipped to you. Airport to airport shipping is obviously the cheapest method but it can also be shipped via FedEx over night or FedEx 2day. Please email us for approximate rates for the fedex service. Freight shipping via the airline will charge you for 100lbs regardless if you have 1 or 99lbs. So obviously shipping as close to 100lbs as possible will be the most cost effective with shipping. Worried about what you'll get with transhipped rock? Take a look here at our pictures of a some Fiji Premium which was transhipped.
Curing Live RockAny rock that you receive is going to have some die off. It's expected after being shipped from so far out of water. To cure live rock yourself is an easy process and to have the best chance of life on your rock it's actually recommended that you get raw rock and cure it yourself. This way when you get it you can look the rock over and decide which life you'd like to try saving and you have complete control over the curing process. If you are just starting out your aquarium then you can kill two birds with one stone by curing your live rock in your newly setup tank which will also cycle the tank. NEVER add rock that needs to be cured to an exsisting tank with critters. If you have a tank up and running already and just wanted to add more rock then you'll need to cure your live rock in a seperate container. This can easily be done in a large rubbermaid type container. Some things you will need in order to cure your live rock are:
When you get your rock you will want to look it over for critters already dead or which are too far gone to be saved. Most common of these would be sponges as once exposed to air they don't fare well. Scrub these critters off and place your rock into your container/tank with the proper specific gravity. We keep our tanks at 1.025-26. Many places recommend you have no lighting and no water changes. This is silly. You will need some sort of photoperiod to keep the light demanding critters alive like any corals which may have hitch hiked or various macro algaes. As far as the water changes, the ammonia in a curing tank can soar through the roof. What can possibly survive such concentrations of ammonia? Afterall you're trying to save as much life on this rock as possible! Keep on top of water changes so the ammonia doesn't get out of hand. After some time you will see all the parameters drop off. Once you get zeros in ammonia and nitrites your rock has been cured. Be sure to empty your skimmer out and clean it often during the process as curing live rock can really put your skimmer to work. Once you see what life you can preserve on your rock by curing it yourself we think you will be amazed.
